Anshul Kamboj, the Chennai Super Kings fast bowler who has fallen out of India's Test plans, made a statement with the bat on the opening day of the Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru. Coming in at No. 9 with North Zone reeling at 161 for 7, he smashed 60 off just 52 deliveries, including five fours and five sixes. His aggressive knock helped his team reach 251 all out, with valuable partnerships for the eighth and tenth wickets.

Notably, he added 48 with Abid Mushtaq and then 31 with last man Sunil Kumar, who never faced a ball. Kamboj did the heavy lifting against bowlers like Tushar Deshpande and Tanush Kotian. Having played only one Test, on India's tour of England last year, where he took just one wicket, he was dropped for subsequent home series. With India's lower order struggling, this innings may remind the selectors of his all-round potential.
