Shubman Gill to Feature for Punjab in Ranji Trophy Clash Against Chhattisgarh
India's Test captain returns to domestic red-ball duty as Punjab host Chhattisgarh in the second round from October 18.
Shubman Gill is in line to represent Punjab in the second round of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy, with the side scheduled to meet Chhattisgarh from October 18 at New Chandigarh. A Times of India report by Sahil Malhotra states that the India Test captain, who sat out the opening fixture, is available for selection this time around.
Punjab opened their campaign with a draw against Assam, collecting three points from that match without Gill in the line-up. Having him back is a considerable fillip for the team so early in the competition, strengthening the batting order.
The appearance doubles as preparation for Gill ahead of a two-match Test series in New Zealand. His first-class numbers for Punjab stand at 14 matches, 1,296 runs at an average of 58.90, featuring five centuries and five fifties.
The development hands Punjab a notable gain as they look to build momentum, while Gill gets valuable time in the longer format before the overseas assignment. Further updates are expected.
