BCB Set To Serve Show-Cause Notice On Women's Coach Sarwar Imran
Bangladesh's women's head coach faces board action after publicly blaming the country's cricket structure for the Asian Games medal miss.

Bangladesh Cricket Board is preparing to issue a show-cause notice to Sarwar Imran, the head coach of the national women's team, after he publicly questioned the state of the women's game in the country. His remarks came on the same day Bangladesh failed to win any medal at the Asian Games 2026, losing the bronze-medal match to Pakistan by 31 runs — the first time they have finished off the podium at the event.
Chasing 146 at Korgoi Sports Park in Nisshin, Bangladesh managed only 24 runs in the powerplay and were eventually limited to 114 for 7, with Fatima Sana having earlier struck 45 off 30 balls. Reviewing the defeat, Sarwar pointed to a frail development pathway and said negative press since the Asia Cup had left the squad unsettled. He argued other sides clear the ropes with ease while his players cannot, suggesting the fix is psychological, and asked how the team could be expected to perform when the coach and captains had already been written off. He added that women's cricket in Bangladesh is stuck, with fewer than 30 players available to pick from.
Hours later, BCB women's wing chairman Rafiqul Islam Babu told The Daily Star that action would follow. He questioned how a senior coach could make such statements, noting the board had never officially commented on reported coach or captain changes. Babu said Sarwar had been told discussions on improvements would take place once he returned.
