World No.1 All-Rounder Matthews Returns to Renegades

Hayley Matthews is set to pull on the Melbourne Renegades jersey once again for WBBL 12, having sat out the previous season entirely. The West Indian all-rounder was forced to undergo shoulder surgery after sustaining an injury while fielding in an ODI against England. She initially delayed the operation to fulfill her international duties and feature in the Caribbean Premier League, which extended her recovery timeline and ruled her out of WBBL 11.

Matthews was a driving force behind the Renegades' WBBL 10 championship triumph, amassing 324 runs in ten innings at an average of 40.50 and a strike rate of 130.64. She also collected 14 wickets at a miserly average of 17.78, underscoring her match-winning capabilities with both bat and ball.

Her return adds significant depth to a squad that already includes domestic regulars like Sophie Molineux, Nicole Faltum, and Georgia Wareham. Matthews provides the team with a proven overseas match-winner capable of turning a game single-handedly. "Winning the championship with the Renegades was such a special experience and I'm really looking forward to being part of the group again," she said.
