PCB Retains Aaqib Javed Amid Team Overhaul and Criticism
Pakistan's cricket board has decided to keep Aaqib Javed in his dual role despite widespread scrutiny.
The Pakistan Cricket Board, led by Mohsin Naqvi, has ended speculation over Aaqib Javed's future by confirming he stays on as Director of High Performance and national selector. The decision comes during a turbulent period for Pakistani cricket, following a heavy defeat to England that triggered a major squad shake-up.
Javed has faced growing criticism from fans after Pakistan's poor run in Test cricket, and there were reports suggesting he might be removed as chief selector. However, the board has chosen to retain him, entrusting him with continued influence over key cricketing decisions. He had returned to Lahore after being with the team for the first two Tests in England.
The retention follows an earlier request from the PCB asking selectors to justify the inclusion of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq, both of whom were dropped after the second Test. Despite ongoing backlash from former players and media, the PCB has opted for stability in its selection leadership.
