Pakistan will be notably absent from the inaugural Women's Champions Trophy 2027, which India is set to host in February. While fans may assume the longstanding political tensions between the two nations are the cause, the real reason lies in Pakistan's failure to qualify for the event.
The qualification process for the Champions Trophy saw the host nation earn an automatic spot, with the next five highest-ranked T20I teams joining them. When Sri Lanka was originally named host, they were stripped of the rights after the ICC objected to government interference in the board's administration. India subsequently took over hosting duties, securing their place as hosts.
Pakistan, currently ranked eighth in T20I cricket, missed the cut. The top five qualifiers after India are Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. Pakistan's early exit from the 2026 T20 World Cup further weakened their claim, leaving them on the outside looking in for the 2027 tournament.
