English Cricket Legends Who Shone in the Big Bash League

The Big Bash League has often been the destination for retired England stars seeking one final hurrah. The latest to join that list is Ben Stokes, who has signed with the Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming season. Stokes announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this year, and his move to the BBL has captured widespread attention. Interestingly, this is not his first appearance in the league; he previously played four matches for the Melbourne Renegades in 2014/15 as a replacement for the injured Jesse Ryder.
Kevin Pietersen was another high-profile Englishman to take the BBL route. In July 2014, he inked a two-year deal with the Melbourne Stars, shortly after being told by the ECB that he would not be considered for England again. Pietersen remained available for the Stars across four seasons, amassing 1,110 runs in 33 matches at an average of 37.00 and a strike rate of 137.20.
Andrew Flintoff also spent time in the BBL, turning out for the Brisbane Heat in the 2014/15 season. That campaign proved to be his lone stint in the league, as he featured in seven matches. Flintoff's numbers were far from impressive, but his presence added a touch of English stardom to the competition. These signings highlight the growing appeal of franchise cricket for retired internationals from across the globe.
