CSK CEO Hints Dhoni Could Return for IPL 2027

Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has offered a fresh glimmer of hope for fans eager to see MS Dhoni back in action, suggesting the former India captain may yet feature in IPL 2027. Speaking on a YouTube show hosted by Krish Srikkanth and his son, Viswanathan revealed that Dhoni has not communicated any decision to hang up his boots, leaving the door open for another season.
Dhoni sat out the entire 2026 campaign after suffering a calf strain during pre-season and later a thumb injury, fueling talk that his illustrious career had ended. Reports even suggested he might transition into a mentoring role with the franchise. However, Viswanathan's remarks indicate that the final call rests with Dhoni himself, and CSK have not closed the chapter on his playing days.
The CSK CEO also dismissed speculation that Dhoni had asked for an 18-25% ownership stake in the franchise, calling such rumors completely baseless. With the franchise appearing to back Dhoni's autonomy over his future, the prospect of seeing the iconic cricketer in yellow for one more season remains very much alive.
