Sri Lanka's preparations for the second Test against India have been thrown into disarray after Dinesh Chandimal was officially ruled out of the clash. The veteran batsman suffered a shoulder injury during the final day's play in Galle, where the hosts fell to a 165-run defeat. His absence has been confirmed due to the mandatory seven-day cooling-off period for concussion replacements, as per ICC regulations.

The incident occurred when Chandimal attempted to cut off a boundary from KL Rahul, diving hard and landing awkwardly on his shoulder. Although the initial assessment suggested no serious internal damage, he was later substituted as a concussion precaution, with Pasindu Sooriyabandara making his Test debut in his place. That substitution automatically rules Chandimal out of the Colombo fixture starting August 23.

Adding to Sri Lanka's headaches, another key player is reportedly in doubt for the match. The team management will now have to rework their batting order and consider blooding younger talent. While the setbacks are significant, they also open opportunities for fringe players to prove their worth on the international stage, as Sri Lanka look to level the series and keep their World Test Championship campaign on track.
