Sarfaraz Khan Replaces Sai Sudharsan in India's Test Squad for Sri Lanka
The Mumbai batter has been called up after the left-hander failed to regain full fitness from a toe injury.
The BCCI has named Sarfaraz Khan as the replacement for the injured Sai Sudharsan in India's Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka. Sudharsan was ruled out after a right toe stress reaction, which he picked up during the India-A tour of Sri Lanka. Though he resumed batting at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, the medical team did not grant him clearance for the series.
Sarfaraz, who has been in fine domestic form, will join the squad in Colombo before the team heads to Galle for the opening Test starting August 15. The board confirmed that Sudharsan is recovering well and remains under observation. The selection committee acted swiftly to bring in the experienced middle-order batter as a like-for-like replacement.
The updated India squad, led by Shubman Gill, includes KL Rahul as vice-captain, along with key players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj. Sarfaraz's inclusion adds depth to the batting lineup for the important series.
