Rahane Advises Gambhir: Test Cricket Needs Senior Core

Ajinkya Rahane, who announced his retirement from international cricket recently, has spoken out about the need for better communication and respect towards senior players. Reflecting on his own exit, Rahane revealed he was dropped without proper clarity, a sentiment that echoes concerns about the current management's approach under Gautam Gambhir.

Speaking on a cricket podcast, Rahane stressed that Test cricket thrives on a blend of experience and youth. He suggested that a team ideally needs seven or eight senior players alongside two or three emerging talents, but noted that the current Indian side is mostly made up of newcomers, with very few seasoned campaigners remaining.

Rahane also hinted at the challenges faced by veterans like Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, who reportedly felt they had to continually prove their worth despite their records. This pressure, he implied, may have contributed to their Test retirements. His advice to Gambhir is clear: value and respect the seniors, as they form the backbone of the longest format.
