Albie Morkel Appointed Head Coach of Joburg Super Kings

The former South African all-rounder replaces Stephen Fleming ahead of SA20 2027.

Albie Morkel has been named the new head coach of the Joburg Super Kings, taking over from Stephen Fleming. The former New Zealand captain had been at the helm for both the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and the Joburg Super Kings in SA20, but the franchises recently parted ways.

Morkel, who previously played for CSK in the IPL, expressed his excitement about the role. He said it was special to go from wearing the Super Kings jersey as a player to leading one of its franchises as head coach, and he looks forward to building on the strong foundations already laid.

The SA20 2027 season will run from January 17 to February 21 in South Africa. Morkel has a storied history with the Super Kings family, having played 78 IPL matches for CSK between 2008 and 2013, scoring over 800 runs and taking 76 wickets. He was part of the title-winning sides in 2010 and 2011.
