Three Candidates to Replace Ryan Ten Doeschate as India Assistant Coach
Netherlands legend Ryan Ten Doeschate has left his role, opening the door for potential successors like Vijay Dahiya, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, or Wasim Jaffer.
Ryan Ten Doeschate, the Netherlands great, stepped down as India's assistant coach after two years, citing family reasons. His final assignment was India's UK tour, and he has since rejoined Kolkata Knight Riders as assistant coach for IPL 2026. The vacant role now presents an opportunity for a new face to join head coach Gautam Gambhir's staff.
Vijay Dahiya, a former India player and coach, is a strong candidate given his previous collaboration with Gambhir at Lucknow Super Giants, where they led the team to consecutive playoff appearances. Dahiya's experience in the IPL and his rapport with Gambhir make him a natural fit for the national set-up.
Alternatively, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, currently head coach of India's Under-19 team, has been recommended by the BCCI. He recently served as batting coach on India's Zimbabwe tour under interim head coach VVS Laxman. Kanitkar also has experience with the women's team and has been involved in various international series, making him a seasoned option.
A surprise contender could be Wasim Jaffer, the former India opener who has been deeply involved in domestic coaching. Jaffer's extensive knowledge of Indian cricket and his ability to develop young talent might earn him a spot in Gambhir's coaching team.
