The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a 15-member squad for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka starting August 15, with several players facing a critical juncture in their careers. Ravindra Jadeja returns to the red-ball side for the first time since the 2025 South Africa tour, but faces stiff competition from younger all-rounders Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain. The 37-year-old, who managed only 105 runs in four innings in South Africa but took 10 wickets, must deliver against Sri Lanka to retain his spot.

Sai Sudharsan, seen as a long-term solution at No. 3, also has much to prove after a series of inconsistent performances. The Tamil Nadu batter has shown flashes of brilliance but needs a substantial score to cement his place in a batting order that already features established names like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and KL Rahul. With the likes of Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel also in the squad, competition for places is intense.
