Gavaskar Urges BCCI to Enlarge Boundaries for World Cup
The former India captain wants players to adapt to larger outfields in South Africa and Australia.
Sunil Gavaskar has called on the BCCI to increase boundary sizes at Indian grounds to help players prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, as well as the 2028 T20 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Writing in his Sportstar column, he suggested using the space behind LED advertising boards to expand the playing area.
Gavaskar emphasized that Indian stadiums often feature short boundaries, leading to high-scoring matches, particularly in the IPL where teams frequently surpass 200 and even 250 runs. He believes adjusting boundaries now will give batters time to acclimatize to larger outfields abroad, which is crucial for success in upcoming global tournaments.
