Why Shreyas Iyer Didn't Pick Prabhsimran for Final T20I
Despite a strong IPL performance, the PBKS opener remained on the bench as India backed other players for the series finale.
India sealed the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy, making the final game a dead rubber. However, Prabhsimran Singh, who impressed in IPL 2026 with 510 runs at a strike rate of 168.87, was the only squad member alongside Harsh Dubey to go unused throughout the series.
One key reason for his exclusion was the team's desire to back Abhishek Sharma, the world number one T20I batter for much of the previous World Cup cycle. Although his form has dipped since the T20 World Cup 2026, the management opted to give him a full run in the series to regain confidence.
Another factor was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old prodigy who became India's youngest international cricketer during the England tour. The team wanted him to gain experience and settle into the setup, playing all three matches of the Zimbabwe series. He rewarded that faith with two half-centuries, including a top score of 81 off 49 balls.
