Indian cricketers Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar have been appointed as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) in Bihar. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary handed over the appointment letters during a ceremony at the Energy Auditorium in Patna on July 24. The move recognizes the cricketers' contributions and aims to inspire young athletes in the state.
Along with the two fast bowlers, 180 other athletes received appointments in various government services. The Bihar government also announced scholarships for 637 players in the current financial year to help them focus on their sport without financial worries. This initiative underscores the state's commitment to nurturing sporting talent.
Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar join a list of Indian cricketers who hold honorary or active posts in police or military forces. Notable names include Mohammed Siraj (DSP, Telangana), Deepti Sharma (DSP, Uttar Pradesh), and MS Dhoni (Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army).
