India began their tour of Zimbabwe with a dominant win in the first T20I, chasing down a modest target of 126 with ease. The spotlight, however, fell on the Player of the Match decision, which went to pacer Mayank Yadav instead of batting star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Mayank, playing his first international match in two years, delivered a game-changing spell in the powerplay. He bowled three consecutive overs, conceding just 10 runs and taking two crucial wickets, setting the tone for Zimbabwe's collapse to 125 all out. His ability to hit the hard length at pace on a tricky pitch made scoring difficult for the hosts.
Vaibhav's half-century, which made him the youngest player to score fifty in T20I history, was undoubtedly impressive. However, the pitch at Harare Sports Club assisted bowlers, and his 50 came in a chase that was already under control. The foundation for that win was laid by Mayank's early breakthroughs, making him the deserving winner of the award.
