Shastri Picks 2027 WC Squad, Drops Gambhir's Two Key Players
Former India coach Ravi Shastri has revealed his ideal 15-man squad for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, leaving out Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana.
Ravi Shastri, the former India head coach, has named his preferred squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup, set to be hosted in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. His selections notably exclude two all-rounders heavily backed by current coach Gautam Gambhir: Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana.
Instead, Shastri has brought back seasoned campaigners Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, both of whom have been out of favour with the current management. He also recalled veteran pacer Mohammed Shami and included wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, reinforcing the squad with proven performers.
Jadeja was omitted from the recent ODI series in England, while Bhuvneshwar last played international cricket nearly four years ago. Shami, a key figure in past World Cup campaigns, returns as a strike bowler. Shastri's squad reflects a preference for experience over the newer faces Gambhir has promoted.
