Shreyas Iyer Leads New-Look India T20 Squad for Zimbabwe Series

India have announced a revamped T20I squad for the upcoming three-match series against Zimbabwe, with Shreyas Iyer taking over as captain from Suryakumar Yadav. Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain as the selectors aim to build depth ahead of future assignments.

The most notable change is the omission of Sanju Samson, who was Player of the T20 World Cup 2026. Samson has been rested to give opportunities to uncapped players, with Prabhsimran Singh coming in as a replacement. The squad features several emerging talents including Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Harsh Dubey, and Prince Yadav.

The series, starting July 21 at Harare Sports Club, is part of a broader transition after India's World Cup triumph. Senior players have been rested to evaluate bench strength, with the Asian Games in September also influencing selection decisions.
