BCCI to Enforce New MCC Rules in Domestic Cricket from 2026-27
India's cricket board will implement updated playing conditions, including compulsory completion of the final over and stricter no-ball penalties.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to adopt the latest Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) laws for the 2026-27 domestic season, aiming to close existing loopholes and ensure fairer competition. The changes will apply to premier tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
A key amendment concerns the final over of the day's play. Under the new rule, if the last scheduled over has begun, it must be completed even if a wicket falls. The incoming batter must immediately take strike, preventing teams from using a dismissal to shield batsmen from difficult conditions late in the day.
Additionally, harsher sanctions will be imposed for deliberate no-balls. If an umpire deems a no-ball intentional, the bowler will be barred from bowling for the remainder of the match, not just the innings. Furthermore, any fielder who deliberately stops the ball before it reaches the striker will concede a no-ball, closing another potential avenue for unfair play.
