Sir Garfield Sobers, widely hailed as one of the greatest all-rounders in cricket history, has died at the age of 89. The Barbadian legend passed away just a short time before he would have turned 90, leaving the cricketing world in mourning.

Sobers played 93 Test matches for the West Indies between 1954 and 1974, amassing 8,032 runs at an average of 57.58, including 26 centuries and 30 half-centuries. His attacking batting was complemented by highly effective left-arm spin bowling, making him a complete force in the game.

West Indies Cricket paid tribute on social media, stating, "A great innings has come to an end. In our hearts, now and forever, Sir Garfield Sobers." Even decades after his retirement, Sobers remains the third-highest century-maker for the West Indies in Test cricket, behind only Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Tributes continue to pour in from around the world for the iconic figure.
