Ashwin Rips Into BCCI, Gambhir Over Rohit Sharma Treatment
Former spinner slams board and team management for poor communication ahead of reported retirement.
Ravichandran Ashwin has launched a blistering attack on the BCCI and head coach Gautam Gambhir over their handling of Rohit Sharma’s future. Reports suggest the opener may retire after the third ODI against England, having been told he is not part of World Cup 2027 plans. Ashwin accused the board of making Rohit feel unwanted.
Speaking on his podcast, Ashwin said players cannot perform when they feel unwanted and that the timing of the communication was wrong. He argued that if selectors wanted to move on, they should have informed Rohit after the 2025 Champions Trophy, not in 2026 with the World Cup approaching. Ashwin stressed that Rohit still has a decent record in ODIs.
