Root's milestone also saw him equal Kevin Pietersen's long-standing record for the most 50-plus scores by an England batter against India in ODIs, with nine such innings. He now holds the joint top spot alongside Pietersen, ahead of Ian Bell (8), Alastair Cook (7), and Paul Collingwood (6).

The right-hander has been in sublime form in 2025, leading the charts for most 50-plus scores in ODIs since the start of the year with 12, ahead of New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell (11) and India's Virat Kohli (10).
