Root Equals Pietersen's Record with Fifth Consecutive Fifty
Joe Root's unbeaten streak continues as he matches Kevin Pietersen's nine 50-plus scores against India in ODIs.

Joe Root once again proved his class in the second ODI against India at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Coming in at number three after early wickets, the veteran batter anchored England's chase with a composed half-century. His 47th ODI fifty was his fifth successive 50-plus score in the format, underlining his remarkable consistency.
Root's milestone also saw him equal Kevin Pietersen's long-standing record for the most 50-plus scores by an England batter against India in ODIs, with nine such innings. He now holds the joint top spot alongside Pietersen, ahead of Ian Bell (8), Alastair Cook (7), and Paul Collingwood (6).
The right-hander has been in sublime form in 2025, leading the charts for most 50-plus scores in ODIs since the start of the year with 12, ahead of New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell (11) and India's Virat Kohli (10). Root's contribution was vital as England chased 234, built on a solid partnership with Harry Brook and a crucial stand with Sam Curran.
