India captain Shubman Gill was forced to retire hurt due to severe cramps during the first ODI against England in Nagpur. He had stepped in to stabilize the innings after the early dismissals of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, looking well set for a big score.

The discomfort became evident as Gill repeatedly complained of cramps throughout his stay at the crease. In the 26th over, he could no longer continue and limped off the field in visible pain, with the team physio rushing to attend to him. The injury was to his right leg.

Gill was nearing his 10th ODI century when his body gave way. While he is allowed to return to bat later, his body language suggested a comeback is highly unlikely. His departure leaves India in a precarious position in the chase.
