Trott Joins Ireland Coaching Staff for Afghanistan Series
Former England batter and ex-Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott has signed a 14-day consultancy deal with Ireland.

Ireland has brought in Jonathan Trott as a short-term consultant for the senior men's team, filling the gap left after Heinrich Malan stepped down in June. The former England batter will work with the squad for just two weeks, starting next week, focusing on preparation and match strategy for a crucial home series against Afghanistan.
Trott's unique insight into the opposition makes him a valuable asset. He recently finished a four-year stint as head coach of Afghanistan, a role that ended in February. His direct experience with the players Ireland will face allows him to provide tactical advice and identify individual weaknesses that no other coach could offer on short notice.
Graeme West, Cricket Ireland's Director of High Performance, highlighted the significance of the appointment. "This is a rare opportunity to bring a world-class coach into the senior team environment, offering a wealth of current knowledge on the opposition. Jonathan is perfectly placed to support our strategic planning for the series," West said. The Afghanistan series will also serve as vital preparation for the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
