Axar Patel etched his name in the record books during the first ODI against England at Edgbaston, joining Ravindra Jadeja as the only Indian spinners to claim four wickets in the death overs (41-50) of a men's ODI. Patel's late burst triggered a collapse that saw England lose their last five wickets for just 30 runs, finishing at 258 all out.

Patel broke a crucial 121-run stand between Joe Root and Liam Dawson by dismissing Dawson in the 45th over. He then cleaned up the lower order, removing Josh Tongue, Adil Rashid, and Jofra Archer to finish with figures of 4 for 38. This performance underlined his value as a dependable all-round option in white-ball cricket.

Jadeja had previously achieved the same feat against Sri Lanka in Port of Spain in 2013. Patel's effort also helped India seize early control of the series opener, after early wickets from debutant Gurnoor Brar had reduced England to 80 for 5.
