Hemang Badani's Appointment Could Shake Up CSK's Squad
If former Delhi Capitals coach Hemang Badani takes over Chennai Super Kings, several players may be shown the door ahead of IPL 2027 mini auction.

Chennai Super Kings are on the verge of a major reshuffle after parting ways with long-time head coach Stephen Fleming. Reports suggest Hemang Badani, previously with Delhi Capitals, is the frontrunner to take charge. Should Badani be appointed, he is expected to overhaul the squad to build a title-winning team for IPL 2027.
Among those likely to be released is Australian pacer Spencer Johnson, who joined CSK at his base price of ₹1.5 crore but managed only two wickets in three matches. His injury-prone nature and underwhelming performances make him expendable, especially with pace alternatives like Khaleel Ahmed, Matt Henry, and Nathan Ellis already in the ranks.
Another candidate for exit is Prashant Veer, signed for ₹14 crore but unable to justify his price tag. He scored 90 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 134.33 and bowled just one over, conceding 25 runs. With limited impact, he may be sacrificed as CSK look to rebuild under new leadership.
