Three Indian Players Face 2028 T20 World Cup Axe After England Rout
India's transition under new captain Shreyas Iyer hits a rocky start with a 4-0 series loss to England, putting several players' spots in doubt for the 2028 T20 World Cup.

India's T20I side is undergoing a transition under new captain Shreyas Iyer, but his tenure has begun disastrously. After a 2-0 series defeat to Ireland, India suffered a 4-0 hammering at the hands of England, losing the top spot in the ICC T20I rankings. The team management is now under pressure to make changes ahead of the 2028 T20 World Cup.
One player whose spot is under threat is teenage opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old, who won the Orange Cap in IPL 2026, scored just 42 runs in his first three T20I innings at an average of 14. He was dropped for the final T20I against England, with captain Iyer bringing in Sanju Samson. Iyer's comments suggested the youngster is not in immediate plans for 2028, saying, "This is the time we need to try what's the best going forward." With fierce competition for opening slots, Sooryavanshi faces an uphill battle to stay in contention.
