McCullum Loosens Alcohol Rules After England's India Series Win
Head coach allows players to celebrate with a beer, but urges responsibility.

England head coach Brendon McCullum has decided to ease the ECB's strict alcohol guidelines following the team's dominant 4-0 T20I series victory over world champions India. Both McCullum and managing director Rob Key invoked a clause that permits them to override the regulations temporarily, allowing players to enjoy a drink in moderation.
The ECB had recently tightened its stance on alcohol consumption after several off-field incidents involving players, including Harry Brook in New Zealand and Ben Duckett during the Ashes. A midnight curfew was imposed earlier this year, and stricter rules were enacted just weeks after Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were involved in a nightclub incident in London.
McCullum encouraged the squad to feel the "warmth of success" by having a beer, but stressed the importance of sensible behavior. "If you are someone that likes a beer, then tonight is a great opportunity to enjoy yourself β as long as it's not to excess," he said. He added that the team is aware of the guidance and should ensure no one ends up on the front pages for the wrong reasons.
