The International Cricket Council (ICC) held its annual conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, where several key decisions were made regarding the future of the game. Contrary to earlier speculation, the ICC has confirmed it has no intention of reducing the number of overs in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). Reports suggesting a possible reduction to 40 overs per side have been dismissed, as the governing body remains committed to the traditional 50-over format.

In addition, the ICC has decided against expanding the World Test Championship (WTC) to include more teams. While there were discussions about adding Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and Ireland to the WTC cycle, no such expansion has been approved. The status quo will be maintained for the foreseeable future.

Further developments from the meeting include the continued suspension of USA Cricket and Cricket Canada. USA Cricket remains suspended due to repeated breaches of its obligations as an ICC member, while Cricket Canada is under an ongoing corruption investigation. The ICC has rejected Canada's request to end its suspension, stating that the investigation is still active.
