India Need an Extra Pacer, Not a Third Spinner in T20I XI
Playing three spinners backfired in the second T20I against England, highlighting the need for an additional pace option.

India's decision to field three spinners—Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, and Ravi Bishnoi—in the second T20I against England proved costly. With only two frontline pacers in Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, the team lacked bowling flexibility. Ravi Bishnoi's 17th over, which went for 29 runs, turned the match in England's favor.
The overreliance on spin backfired as Jacob Bethell and Tom Banton, both adept against slow bowling, built a match-winning partnership. Between overs 7 and 16, India bowled only two overs of pace, allowing England's batters to dictate terms. The spinners, barring Axar, leaked runs at nearly 10 per over while taking just two wickets.
With Hardik Pandya unavailable, India's pace attack remains thin. The team cannot rely on Shivam Dube's part-time seamers against quality batters. Instead of a third specialist spinner, India should add an extra pacer to improve balance. Part-time options like Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma can cover a few overs of spin, preserving the need for a varied attack.
