Babar Azam is reportedly set to be reappointed as Pakistan's Test captain, ending Shan Masood's stint in the role. According to sources, the change could be confirmed before the two-match series against West Indies later this month.

This would mark Babar’s third spell as red-ball skipper. He previously led Pakistan across formats from 2019 to 2023 before stepping down after the ODI World Cup. He briefly reclaimed white-ball captaincy in 2024 but resigned again later that year.

Shan Masood's tenure has been underwhelming, with Pakistan winning only four of 16 Tests under his leadership. The team finished last in the World Test Championship standings, prompting PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi to seek a change. Salman Ali Agha was approached but declined the role, leaving Babar as the preferred choice.
