Mike Hesson, Pakistan's head coach, has acknowledged that India are currently the dominant force in world cricket. Speaking to Cricinfo, Hesson stated that India are not just superior to Pakistan but are the best team globally by a significant margin. He believes every international side struggles against India, so Pakistan's difficulties are not unique. Hesson noted that while Pakistan won every game in the Asia Cup except against India, the overall challenge of beating Rohit Sharma's team remains immense.

Pakistan's recent form has been mixed. They suffered a humiliating Test series whitewash against Bangladesh but bounced back strongly by defeating Australia in an ODI series. However, their ICC trophy drought continues since the 2017 Champions Trophy title. They reached the 2022 T20 World Cup final and the semi-finals of the following edition but haven't made the ODI World Cup semi-finals since 2011.

Reflecting on the 2026 T20 World Cup, Hesson praised Pakistan's performance, noting their only losses came against England and India. He attributed those defeats to exceptional individual performances, such as Harry Brook's century against them.
