Shreyas Iyer marked his first match as India's T20I captain with a commanding 68 off 47 balls against England, leading his team from the front. The knock not only earned him his ninth T20I half-century but also helped him cross the 5000-run mark in international cricket for India.

Iyer became the 29th Indian to achieve this milestone, taking 147 innings to amass 5031 runs at an average of 39.61. The right-handed batter now joins the likes of Rishabh Pant and Ajay Jadeja in the 5000-run club. More notably, his 68-run innings surpassed Virat Kohli's previous best of 47 by an Indian captain in T20Is against England, set in 2018.

The 31-year-old walked in when India were reeling at 6 for 2 and anchored the innings with six fours and a six. This performance was a stark contrast to his recent struggles in the Ireland series, where he managed only 13 runs across two innings.
