Ben Stokes has finally spoken out about his international retirement, confirming he will not reverse his decision. The 35-year-old announced his departure from Test cricket following England's six-run loss to New Zealand in the third Test at Trent Bridge, which sealed a 2-1 series defeat.

Stokes told BBC Test Match Special that the decision was not taken lightly and that he is completely done with the format. He cited the cumulative toll of the past six to twelve months, both on and off the field, as a key factor. 'There have been unfortunate events, and everything over a long period has taken its toll,' he said.

The all-rounder, who previously reversed his white-ball retirement for the 2023 World Cup, stressed there is no chance of a similar U-turn now. 'I am very happy with my decision,' he added, leaving no doubt about his finality.
