Jemimah Rodrigues First Indian to Be Retired Out in T20 World Cup
The batter scored 34 off 28 balls before stepping aside to allow a faster scorer in India's must-win group match against Australia at Lord's.

Jemimah Rodrigues became the first Indian cricketer to be 'retired out' in a T20 World Cup during India Women's Group 1 clash against Australia at Lord's. The 28-year-old managed 34 runs from 28 balls, with one four and a six, before walking back at the end of the 19th over to give way for a more aggressive batter.
Her strike rate of 121.42 was below par in a chase of Australia's total, and her selfless act was aimed at boosting the innings. Interestingly, Rodrigues joins England's Nat Sciver-Brunt and Bangladesh's Sharmin Akhter as the only players to be retired out in Women's T20 World Cup history, with all three instances occurring in the 2026 edition.
