Shreyas Iyer's first outing as India's T20I captain ended in a 34-run loss to Ireland in Belfast. The defeat came just months after India's T20 World Cup triumph. Iyer, returning to T20I cricket after a long gap, struggled both as leader and batsman.

Speaking after the match, Iyer praised his fast bowlers for early wickets but admitted the team lost control thereafter. He felt Ireland should have been restricted to around 140, but errors in execution allowed them to reach 182. Iyer stressed the need to move on quickly and focus on the series decider.

The result marks India's first potential series loss in T20Is since August 2023, with the second match scheduled for Sunday.
