India's Unwanted Records After First Loss to Ireland
Shreyas Iyer's captaincy debut ends in defeat as Ireland register their first-ever win over India in any format.

Ireland made history by defeating India for the first time in any format, winning the first T20I in Belfast by 34 runs. The loss handed Shreyas Iyer a forgettable start to his tenure as India's T20I captain, making him the fourth Indian captain to lose on debut in the format.
India's defeat came with several unwanted milestones. The team had previously never lost to Ireland in eight meetings across all formats. Additionally, Ireland's win was their first against a Test-playing nation since 2022.
Shreyas Iyer joined Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Shubman Gill as India captains who lost their first T20I match. The defeat also ended India's streak of not losing a bilateral series under Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy, as the two-match series cannot be won now, only leveled at best.
