Suryansh Shedge has been called up to the Indian squad as a like-for-like replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is ruled out of the Ireland and England tours. The 23-year-old's rapid ascent comes on the back of impressive performances in the IPL and domestic cricket.

In IPL 2026, Shedge showcased his finishing skills for Punjab Kings, striking at 190 against shorter deliveries and maintaining a strike rate of 153.57 overall against pace. His ability to start quickly was evident, with a strike rate of 192.30 in his first ten balls, including nine sixes. These numbers highlight his suitability for the lower-order role.

Shedge has consistently batted at No.6 or lower in T20 cricket, amassing 270 runs at an average of 33.75 and a strike rate of 187.50. While he did not bowl in the IPL, his domestic record for Mumbai is promising—13 wickets at an average of 26.84, with a wicket every 17.9 deliveries. The selectors believe his bowling potential can be developed with more exposure.
