Chennai Super Kings are reportedly setting their sights on Lucknow Super Giants all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed as a long-term replacement for Ravindra Jadeja ahead of IPL 2027. The five-time champions have been searching for a player who can fill the void left by Jadeja's departure, and Ahmed's recent performances in domestic cricket have attracted their attention.

Ahmed impressed during the Bengal T20 tournament, scoring 266 runs at an average of 66.50 and taking 10 wickets in 12 innings. He also led Shrachi Rarh Tigers to their maiden title, showcasing his leadership potential. CSK believe his left-arm spin and batting depth could provide the balance they have lacked since Jadeja's exit.

However, LSG are reluctant to part ways with the 31-year-old, especially after his domestic success. Ahmed joined LSG before IPL 2025 and has played eight matches across two seasons, picking up six wickets. Despite modest IPL numbers, the franchise values his domestic pedigree and sees him as a key asset moving forward.
