KKR Chased Pant, LSG Demanded Narine or Varun
Kolkata Knight Riders were keen on Rishabh Pant, but Lucknow Super Giants asked for Sunil Narine or Varun Chakaravarthy in exchange, leading to a breakdown in talks.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) showed interest in acquiring Rishabh Pant from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of IPL 2027. However, LSG demanded either Sunil Narine or Varun Chakaravarthy in return for the wicketkeeper-batter. KKR refused to part with either spinner, causing negotiations to collapse.
Following the failed talks with KKR, LSG shifted focus to Delhi Capitals (DC). The two franchises are now finalizing a swap deal that will send Pant back to DC, his former team, in exchange for spinner Kuldeep Yadav and an additional ₹15 crore. This potential trade is one of the biggest in IPL history.
Pant had asked LSG to relieve him of captaincy duties earlier this month. Under his leadership, LSG failed to reach the playoffs in both IPL 2025 and IPL 2026 seasons. The swap is expected to be confirmed within weeks.
