Nine Years On: The Fate of Pakistan's 2017 Champions Trophy XI
It's been nearly a decade since Pakistan clinched the Champions Trophy. Here's what the winning squad members are doing today.

18 June marks nine years since Pakistan lifted their first Champions Trophy, defeating India by 180 runs in the final. That victory remains Pakistan's last ICC title, and most of those players have since moved on from international cricket.
Azhar Ali, who scored a crucial half-century in the final, retired from ODIs in 2018. He briefly served as PCB's Head of Youth Development before stepping down in 2025 and now works as an analyst. Fakhar Zaman, the final's centurion, is still active in Pakistan's white-ball setup, though he recently faced a two-match ban in PSL 2026 for ball-tampering. Babar Azam, who scored 32 in the final, remains a key batsman and former captain across formats.
Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik have both retired. Hafeez runs a YouTube channel and appears as a cricket expert on shows, while Malik, who retired from PSL in January 2026, has moved into coaching and punditry. Sarfaraz Ahmed, the victorious captain, announced his retirement in 2023. Other squad members like Mohammad Amir, Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, and Junaid Khan have also either retired or faded from the national scene.
