Nat Sciver-Brunt Ruled Out for Two T20 World Cup Matches
England captain sidelined after calf tightness forces early retirement against Ireland.

England Women's T20 captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has been officially ruled out of her side's next two group-stage matches in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed the decision late Tuesday, citing precautionary measures after Sciver-Brunt experienced tightness in her left calf during the win over Ireland.
Sciver-Brunt retired out on 48 against Ireland in Southampton, having already battled a left calf tear in April that sidelined her for the ODI series against New Zealand and bilateral T20Is against New Zealand and India. Though she returned for warm-ups ahead of the World Cup, the latest setback has prompted scans and further assessment by the England medical team.
Off-spinner Charlie Dean has taken over captaincy duties in Sciver-Brunt's absence. Despite the injury, England have won both their World Cup matches so far, with Sciver-Brunt averaging 94 and striking at 159 in the tournament. The team remains confident but will miss their star all-rounder's leadership and form in the upcoming fixtures.
