Jamie Smith has withdrawn from England's squad ahead of the second Test against New Zealand, choosing to be with his partner after the birth of their second child. The ECB announced the change on Tuesday, a day before the match.
In Smith's absence, uncapped Somerset wicketkeeper-batter James Rew has been called up and will make his Test debut, taking the gloves. The 22-year-old left-hander has amassed 3,921 runs in 64 first-class matches at an average of 41.71, including 12 centuries and 17 half-centuries.
